Wildlife Watching Expedition in the Carpathian Mountains – 3 Full Days

Explore the breathtaking wilderness of the Carpathian Mountains on this 3-day wildlife watching adventure. Designed for nature enthusiasts, this tour offers an immersive experience in one of Europe’s last great wild areas. Accompanied by an expert wildlife guide, you’ll venture into dense forests, alpine meadows, and remote valleys to observe an incredible variety of birds, wild ungulates, and large carnivores in their natural habitat.

The price is:

300 euro/pers

The price is per person per tour and it is in euro (EUR).

Bookings

Bookings are based on a 30% deposit of the price of the program.

The rest of the payment have to be done 30 days before the tour start. If the tour is booked less then 30 days before departure, the full price will be paid.

Included in this price:

  • GUIDE (EN / HU / RO) – specialized assistance (during the tour);
  • 3 days of tour;
  • Transportation during the tour (4X4 car).

The price does not include:

  • Accommodation and food;
  • Drinks;
  • Insurance of any kind (travel, goods, etc.);
  • Flights fare;
  • Personal expenses.

Children policy:

  • Minimum age to participate is 12
  • Children over 12 years are charged as adults
  • Responsibility of children’s supervision during trip belong to parent.

Cancellation policy:

  • More then 90 days before the program you can postpone the trip (you will receive a voucher available 2 years).
  • Less then 90 days before the trip, the deposit is non refundable.

Itinerary

Day 1: Raptors, Forest Birds & Wild Ungulates

  • Morning Session: Early pick-up from Odorheiu Secuiesc and drive to a prime raptor observation area.

    • Target species: Golden eagle, Common buzzard, Eurasian sparrowhawk, Common Kestrel.

  • Midday: Return to accommodation for rest.

  • Evening Session: Short drive to an open meadow where red deer and roe deer often graze.

    • Target species: Red deer stags, roe deer, and possible encounters with wild boars.

  • Return to accommodation for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Bear Watching & High-Mountain Wildlife

  • Morning Session: Early departure to a secluded valley known for bear and lynx activity.

    • Target species: Brown bear (if encountered), wild boar, red fox.

  • Midday: Return to accommodation for rest.

  • Evening Session: Watching bears from a professional hide, ensuring a safe and ethical wildlife experience.

    • Target species: Brown bear, red deer, possible nocturnal mammals.

  • Return to accommodation for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Mixed Habitats & Departure

  • Morning Session: Forest-edge observation session for mixed bird species and potential large mammal encounters.

    • Target species: Hazel grouse, black stork, bear tracks & signs.

  • Midday: Return to accommodation for rest.

  • Evening Session: Drive to a scenic area for a final wildlife-watching session, focusing on red deer and other ungulates.

  • End of tour.

*In winter, will be only one session per day, around 8h.

Your Guide

Your guide is a biologist with a degree in wild animal behavior and a deep understanding of bear ecology. Having grown up in the Carpathian Mountains, he has spent his life studying the forest and its wildlife. As an active conservationist and experienced field researcher, he ensures ethical and responsible wildlife-watching practices while providing in-depth knowledge about the region’s ecosystem.

By the season, temperature vary from -20 to +36 Celsius degrees.

Warnings

Morning can be chill, please bring proper clothes and footwear.

Outdoor

Outdoor activity, please make sure you have all recommended gear.

To ensure a comfortable and successful nature experience, we recommend bringing the following items:

  • Camera Gear: DSLR or mirrorless camera with telephoto and wide-angle lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, and a sturdy tripod.
  • Clothing: Layered clothing suitable for early morning and late evening chills, waterproof jacket, hat, and gloves for cooler temperatures.
  • Footwear: Waterproof hiking boots for trekking.
  • Accessories: Binoculars for spotting distant wildlife, insect repellent, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle.
  • Other Essentials: A small backpack for daily excursions and any personal medication you may need.
