As the seasons shift and Transylvania’s landscapes transform, the Carpathian Mountains become a haven for some of Europe’s most fascinating wildlife. Autumn paints the forests in golden hues, and the crisp mountain air carries the calls of Nutcrackers and Crossbills. Winter brings a quiet beauty, snow-dusted peaks, frozen rivers, and the elusive Wallcreeper clinging to the cliffs, a flash of red against the stone. This is a season of contrasts, where the stillness of the mountains hides a world teeming with life.
This 5-day wildlife adventure is designed for birders, photographers, and nature lovers eager to witness the Pygmy Owl, Ural Owl, Crossbill, Nutcracker, and Wallcreeper, along with Brown Bears and Chamois, in their natural habitats. We’ll explore ancient forests, rugged gorges, and alpine meadows, following the rhythms of nature in one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas.
This tour is done in October – March only.

Itinerary Overview
🏡 Accommodation: 4 nights in 3-star local guesthouses
📍 Locations: 2 nights in Brașov area + 2 nights in Sibiu area

The price includes:
- Wildlife Guide (English Language)
- Transfers from and to Bucharest / Brasov / Sibiu (Airport or hotel)

- Entrance to Bears Hide (if it’s suitable for season)
- 3 full days of tours, as described in the Itinerary.

- Other aspects of personal nature
Booking
- Bookings are based on 30% deposit.
Cancellation policy:
- More then 90 days before the program you can postpone the trip (you will receive a voucher available 2 years).
- Less then 90 days before the trip, the deposit is not refundable.
Itinerary:
Day 1: We’ll pick-you up from Bucharest, Brasov or Sibiu and transfer you to the accommodation in Brasov area. In the evening, the guide will discuss about the next days program, over diner.
Day 2: After breakfast, the guide will take you to a light trekking around the area, for spotting birds. Lunch in a restaurant then you’ll take a visit to a Bears hide. Expected species will be: wild Brown Bears, Red Foxes and Wild Boars. Bears session is ending after sunset. Dinner and accommodation in Brasov area.
*If it’s hard winter and Bears are hibernating, you’ll take a tour, by car, to spot other birds or mammals species.
Also, in winter, you’ll skip the lunch. Daylight is from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and we prefer to use all the daylight for spotting birds. You’ll have an early breakfast, some snacks on the car, a consistent meal after sunset (around 5:00 – 6:00 PM).
Day 3: Early in the morning, after the breakfast, you will start exploring the surroundings for another birding session. In the afternoon the guide leads you to Sibiu area, famous for its Saxon fortified churches. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiu area.
Depending by your target species, the guide will design the route for this day.
Day 4: After breakfast, the car will transport you up to the mountains. You will go by car as far as possible (depending by the snow level) then you will trek until you reach all the targeted birds species. It’s not a difficult trail but a moderate fit level is required. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiu area.
Day 5: After breakfast, you will be transferred to Bucharest / Brasov or Sibiu, where our tour end. If you book your flight today, please consider to take it later then 14:00 (12:00 drop off to Bucharest Airport). If it’s on an weekend, it’s better to be later then 16:00.
Personal equipment required
Being an winter tour that involves travel by land, you need a good personal equipment. It should contain:
- Waterproof clothing – winter is likely to be fog and / or wind.
- Waterproof footwear for mud /snow boots. You will travel through mud or snow, even if not on long distance, though you should be prepared for this.
- The color of clothes is also very important. Please bring clothes in colors more natural, as close to the colors of nature surrounding. The brown camouflage pattern are the best. Red, yellow or other colors to be avoided.
As birdwatching equipment, you should have with you
- Binoculars
- Camera and spare batteries (cold weather is much faster discharge)
- Books of birds in your language (if it’s other then English)
The guide will bring
- A scope for the entire group
- Water and snacks (if no lunch)

*Extreme conditions:
In case of extreme weather conditions (snow, roads closed) occurred before the start of the tour, the deposit will be returned in full.
If these extreme conditions occur during the tour, the price will be lowered only for the remaining part of the program not made.
If customers come from another country / region and appear extreme weather conditions, our agency has no obligation to compensate customers in any way for expenses related to flights or other transportation. Also, if extreme weather conditions occurring during the program and the clients can’t go back home, our agency has no obligation to pay accommodation and other additional expenses.
