Birdwatching Tour to the Danube Delta - PRIVATE

Enjoy the birds paradise
+360 species of birds
A very customizable tour

Imagine drifting silently through a maze of emerald-green waterways, the air filled with the calls of herons and the distant, rhythmic beats of pelican wings. The Danube Delta, one of the world’s largest and best-preserved wetlands, unfolds before you, an untouched paradise where nature still reigns supreme.

This is not just a birdwatching tour. This is your personal journey into one of the most biodiverse corners of Europe, a place where time slows down, and every bend in the river reveals something new. A flash of iridescent blue, a Kingfisher darting between the reeds. A silent sentinel, a White-tailed Eagle scanning the water from above. A secret nesting site, hidden deep within the reeds, where pelicans gather in perfect harmony.

With an expert birdwatching guide by your side, you won’t just spot birds, you’ll understand them. Their behaviors, their migrations, the subtle changes in their calls as the seasons shift. This tour is designed for those who crave more than a checklist; for those who want to truly connect with the wild, to sit, to watch, and to be part of this incredible world.

A Stay at the Heart of the Delta

Your base for this adventure is Mila23, a small fishing village in the very center of the Delta. Here, life moves to the rhythm of nature. You’ll stay in a comfortable, family-run 3-star guesthouse, where fresh fish from the Delta is served daily, and evenings are spent under starlit skies, listening to the distant calls of night herons.

Each day, we set out on the water, following the whispers of the Delta. The program is flexible and fully tailored to your interests, if the weather shifts, we adjust. If a rare species has been spotted, we change course. The goal is simple: to experience the Delta at its best, in its natural and ever-changing beauty.

Check in at the guest house, then hold a short technical meeting where the guide will inform you about the next day route, Danube Delta peculiarities and birdwatching, boating rules and behavior in a natural reserve.

In the evening the host will delight you with a traditional dinner, based on fresh fish.

Days 2-6 – The daily trips into the Danube Delta will begin early in the morning, before sunrise, to see the birds that begin to feed. This session is aroung 4-5 hours then you will return to the guesthouse for breakfast. After breakfast, you will go out on the water again, for another session. You will start looking for birds around Mila 23 village on short sessions, up to Letea or Caraorman Villages, over 60 km away from Mila23 on long tours (full days tours). You will travel to different places in Danube Delta, the routes being decided on a day to day basis, depending on weather conditions, water level and fresh information that we have from the field.

After you’ll see the last birds in the dusk, you will come back. At the guesthouse, where you’ll taste a traditional fisherman’s dinner.

The guide will search for the stars of these places: Pelicans, both the White and the rare Dalmatians. Of course, you will see also Little and White Egrets, Gray, Purple, Yellow, or Night Heron, the agile Kingfisher, the majestic White-tailed Eagle, noisy Coots, Godwits, Spoonbills, Ibises, Ruffs, Stilts and others.

Of course mammals will be also under spot: otters, wild boars, roe deer, muskrats or the beautiful raccoon dog.

Day 7: After a relaxed breakfast (8:30 am), this time without sunrise session, you will have the transfer back to Tulcea, but now, in the morning, you will have the best light for this route.

* If you choose the transfer from/to the airport with us, we can make a route with several stops in interesting places where we also see several species of birds (if you have enough time).

🐟 Slow-Speed Exploration: Our approach is gentle and respectful. By moving at a slow, steady pace, we:

  • Protect aquatic vegetation, essential for fish breeding and water filtration.
  • Prevent erosion and disturbance to bird nests along the shoreline.
  • Reduce stress on migratory and resident bird species, allowing for natural behavior and better wildlife observation.
